Mixing statues, installations and participatory artworks, Alfiah Rahdini’s practice stems from sculpture art. The young visual artist’s creations explore the impact of art on different facets of society, drawing on socio-political, cultural and religious perspectives as well as her status as a female artist.
In this way, Alfiah Rahdini materializes complex layers of thought, paradoxes that overlap and harmonize to address contemporary issues.

Committed art that defies stereotypes

Through her creations, the artist seeks to shake up the stereotypes anchored in society, notably by reintroducing ancestral beliefs and traditions, which she stages in the current context.

In one of her landmark works, a woman wears a hijab in a Japanese anime cosplay outfit, representing a test of society. Through the audience’s reaction, this work reflects the way in which different cultures and religious beliefs meet and mingle today. Addressing the place of Muslim women in Indonesian society today, Alfiah Rahdini seeks to trivialize their illustration in the public space.
