FINALIST PRIZE ELLIPSE 2023

Clément Gbegno

Clément Gbegno is a multidisciplinary artist born in 1993 in Lomé whose plastic work transcribes a socio-spiritual analysis of individuals and their behaviour.

Clément Gbegno finalist of the ellipse Prize dedicated to Togo

After studying Philosophy at the University of Lomé, Clément obtained a master’s degree at the Beaux-Arts of Abidjan, graduating with honours.

His “Decomposito-recomposition” approach aims to dissect the cycles of metamorphosis of the being, from genesis to disappearance through reincarnation, across a suggested anatomical study. The artist mixes acrylic, pigments and pastels in acidulous color palette to make these human curiosities physical.

The mutations of being

Clément Gbegno engages a reflection about the transformation processes of things, the beings, the traces of their passage, to question life. He also highlights the role of spirituality and tradition, the growing abandonment of which in favor of a standardizing globalization he denounces.
