Maria Adjovi finalist of the ellipse prize dedicated to Benin
After studying at the Ecole Supérieure d’Administration d’Economie et des métiers de l’Audiovisuel in Benin, she joined the Beaux-Arts in Paris, France.
Inspired by her theological upbringing and eager to create her own artistic language, she reinvests religious codes, exploring allegories of her own penitence.
Religious symbols for her absolution
Through the representation of female figures, she wants to share narratives intertwoven with her personal background, offering a part of herself in each of her canvases.
“When I paint, I am searching for the truth. It unfolds through my intersecting gazes, time slipping away; the unfolding of my moments of existence.“
