winner of the ellipse Prize dedicated to Togo

Ras Sankara is the winner of the 2023 edition of the ellipse Prize dedicated to Togo.

For his first exhibition, the artist has presented a project entitled “Les souvenirs de mon corps” (My body’s memories), retracing a three-acts performance achieved recently in Togo.

Performance to rehumanize humanity

Although he is a visual artist, Ras Sankara began performance art in 2015, today at the center of his practice with his own body as principal medium. For the artist devoted to the causes he defends, it’s essential to “kill the fear, resurrect courage with optimism, through photography, installation and performance”.

Through involved interventions, he highlights sociopolitical issues and raises debates in order to generate reactions and reflections from the population, in an open space known to all: the street. Ras Sankara is also the founder of an association committed to social actions and of the festival “Emome’Art” dedicated to performance art gathering perfomers from the entire world in Lomé.
