Inspired by the fabrics his grandmother used to collect, he salvages second-hand clothing discarded on beaches, in landfills, or at Kantamanto market—the largest second-hand textile hub in the country.
Through dyeing and assemblage techniques, he transforms these worn garments—silent witnesses of past lives—while questioning identity, overconsumption, and colonial legacy.
“HOW TO HEAL A B-R-O-K-E-N WORLD – Fragile Origins, Futile Foundations” places the viewer at the heart of a dialogue between Accra and Paris. Blending intimate narratives with societal exploration, this exhibition highlights the fractures of a world saturated by excess, urging us to recognize our individual and collective responsibilities.
Emmanuel Aggrey Tieku invites visitors to reforge sustainable bonds with textiles, envisioning a future where the industry could mend rather than destroy.
