Born in 1990 in Yogyakarta, Inès Katamso began her career creating murals before turning to smaller formats, giving her access to a more intimate scale to skim her inner world.
Drawing on both a scientific and spiritual perspective, the artist studies micro-organisms and fossils to question the harmony of our environment and reconsider the concept of human life.
The young woman’s multicultural heritage, originate from Indonesia and France, exerts a significant influence on her work. This duality enables her to access diverse cultural dimensions, deconstructing beliefs deeply linked to the notion of identity, in order to achieve a more global perception of herself and the world surrounding her.

Inspired by Balinese tales, Inès Katamso considers this matter as a monstrous creature, denaturing the environment and transforming all the living beings into chimeric entities.
The artist thus materializes the consequences of plastic through three natural reigns: the plants, the animals and the minerals, in forms of sculptures cold in colors, symbols of sterility. A two-month residency is awarded to the artist at the Institut d’art contemporain of Villeurbanne, with accomodation and a studio provided.
